Scope of Service

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is a program where people with low or moderate-incomes (generally under $52,000 per year) may have their federal income taxes prepared and filed absolutely free of charge.  The service is a parntership between the IRS and local organizations available throughout the United States.  Details about the Pinellas County services and volunteer opportunities are found on this web site and information is also available for Hillsborough County and other surrounding areas.  You can even do it yourself for free at www.myfreetaxes.com/ppp.

The Pinellas Prosperity Partnership operates VITA sites in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) throughout Pinellas County with staff support from the Juvenile Welfare Board. Sites are listed below and will be opening late-January/early-February.  Hours and days of operation vary by location. You will need to bring some documentation with you.

Many VITA clients are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).  Find out if you qualify by visiting the IRS’s EITC home page.

Volunteering as a Greeter/Screener or Tax Preparer is a great way to help your neighbors and provide a boost to the local economy. VITA volunteers are certified to file most simple tax forms, but there are some limitations.  For instance, if you have income from rental properties, VITA is not certified to file for you. We would like to thank the IRS, Bank of America Community Foundation and Wells Fargo for financial support of the Pinellas VITA program.

Here is a list of the VITA sites for 2015.  Days and hours of operation are yet to be determined, but will be added by the end of 2014.
